After the end of the war, 44 locomotives of the DRG class E 94 were in Austria. In 1952, ÖBB ordered three more locomotives. The series designation was changed from E 94 to 1020 series in 1954. The 1020 series was used in freight train and ramp service in almost all of Austria for more than five decades.
