With the commissioning of the first "Taurus" locomotive series 1016 in the summer of 1999, the rapid modernization of the Austrian electric locomotive fleet began. A two-system version for AC operation with 15 kV/16.7 Hz and 25 kV/50 Hz was also purchased from this universal locomotive. By 2006, 282 class 1116 locomotives had been put into service. They are approved for 230 km/h. The power is 6,400 kW.
