The machines of the BB 25200 series were SNCF multi-system locomotives for the upscale express train service. They were designed for 1.5 kV direct current as well as for 25 kV/50 Hz alternating current. In contrast to the sister series BB 9200 and BB 16000, they had a top speed of 160 km/h. A corresponding metal sign was mounted on the front of the locomotives that pulled the high-class long-distance train “Mistral” from Paris via Marseille to Nice.
