Diesel locomotive of the 2062 series in the green livery of the Austrian Federal Railways. To replace costly and personnel-intensive steam locomotives in shunting service, the Austrian Federal Railways purchased a series of 400 hp 2062 series fast diesel locomotives from 1958. The Jenbacher plant in Tyrol built a total of 65 of these two-axle small diesel locomotives by 1966.

The locomotive, with striking cast-iron end shields that served as ballast, was used throughout Austria for ÖBB shunting and construction trains. On branch lines in Lower Austria, locomotives appeared at the head of passenger trains and pulled one or two cars. The last locomotives were taken out of regular service in 2003. However, some of them are still in operation today, for example locomotives for work and construction trains with serial designation X262.
