The electric locomotives from Siemens, type ES64U4 were used as the class 1216 (Taurus III) by the ÖBB and other European railway transport companies and are multi-system three-phase current general-purpose locomotives based on technology from the Siemens EuroSprinter family. The locomotives are able to achieve a top speed of 230 km/h with a power output of 6,400 kW. In September 2019, the Czech railways purchased these locomotives 1216 902 and 903 from the Rail Transport Service GmbH (RTS). After a thorough overhaul and repainting in the ÖBB TS workshops in Linz, they are now mainly used in EuroCity transport between Vienna and Poland.

In the early 1960s, the former Czechoslovak State Railways (CSD) needed a new, powerful electric freight locomotives for the 3 kV direct current system in the northern and eastern part of the country. Experience with the E 499.0 and E 499.1 classes – originally developed as universal locomotives – showed that they could be better utilised in passenger service. Locomotive E 499.157 was therefore modified during production for use in freight service and designated the E 469.001. This locomotive had the same power but was equipped with a modified wheelset gearbox by the manufacturer. The service weight was also raised to 88 tonnes by a ballast weight. The series machines had a modified locomotive body. Unlike the E 499.0 with six circular windows per side section, the locomotives of the E 499.1 and E 469.1 classes had four angular windows installed. První lokomotiva ÖBB Vectron 1293 200 byla v květnu 2021 polepena fóliemi v provedení „Nightjet“. Dekorace propaguje nové vlaky „Nightjet“, které mají být v provozu od konce roku 2022. Lokomotiva je vybavena tzv. balíčkem zemí DE-AT-PL-NL-BE-CZ-SK-HU-RO-BG-HR-RS. Od konce roku 2016 jsou ÖBB jednou z mála velkých dopravních společností, které provozují hustou a atraktivní noční vlakovou dopravu s oblíbenými destinacemi, jako je Brusel, Hamburk, Benátky a Varšava. ÖBB objednaly od společnosti Siemens Mobility 13 vlaků se sedmi vagóny, aby dále rozšířily služby v Evropě a nabídly více komfortu a udržitelnosti. Lokomotivy budou v prvním kroku nasazeny na spoje z Rakouska a Německa do Itálie.

The Ae 3/6 came into operation between 1921 and 1929 and were in regular service for over 70 years. Initially used for the high-quality express train transport on the east-west axis, the machines also proved their worth in regional, postal and goods train services.
