From 1971, the Deutsche Bundesbahn put Class 218 locomotives into service and used them to haul passenger and freight trains. They are now used on most non-electrified lines and reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h. They have an output of 1,840 kW. Currently, some of the locomotives are still in service in Ulm, Kempten and Mühldorf am Inn.
The mega-trailer pocket wagon "T3000e" is the further development of the class "T2000". The Loaded space perfectly matches the low-lying vehicle parts of the mega-trailer. However, trailers of previous designs, swap bodies and containers up to a length of 7.82 m also can be loaded.
Based on the TRAXX MS2e platform by Bombardier, this locomotive can be produced in many versions and is thus ideal for the interoperability requirements on railway freight transport in Central and Western Europe. It can be operated on all European electricity networks.
Since the first of January, 2021, the RAlpin-"Rollende Autobahn" (Rolling Highway) Freiburg im Breisgau to Novara Boschetto has been hauled using class 186 locomotives. The 186 909 owned by the SBB is the only locomotive to bear the striking "Nightpiercer" design which sets it apart from the other engines.
