The class 80 locomotives were shunting locomotives with a tender of the DRG. The locomotives were procured as part of the standard steam locomotive programme in the years 1927 to 1929. The C h2 locomotives reached a maximum speed of 45 km/h and had a power output of 424 kW. They operated for the Deutsche Bundesbahn until 1965 and for some works railways until 1978.

Due to increased train weights in express train traffic, the most influential designer for Austrian steam locomotive construction, Ing. Dr. h.c. Karl Gölsdorf, developed a new express locomotive with the wheel arrangement 1'C2' in 1906. This, compared to the Pacific type popular in many countries, was an "inverted" axle arrangement, which made it possible to accommodate a large upright boiler with a wide grate. Together with the weighty four-cylinder compound engine, it was possible to create a high-performance locomotive despite the low Austrian axle load limit of only 14.5 t. This locomotive is considered by many railway enthusiasts to be the most beautiful steam locomotive in Austria. Whereas the first 11 engines were delivered in wet steam design, the other 90 examples of this type were put into service as series 310 superheated steam locomotives and used by the kkStB mainly on the Nordbahn, the Franz-Josefsbahn and the Westbahn between Vienna and Salzburg as a high

ANALOG STEAM LOCOMOTIVE! CSD class 477.0 is the last and most technically sophisticated steam locomotive class of the Czechoslovak State Railways (CSD). A total of 60 models were manufactured by the CKD (CKD Sokolovo in Prague) between 1951 and 1955 and were developed from the previous class 476.1. The engines were designed as powerful express train tank locomotives with a 2'D2' axle arrangement for heavy slow train service and, with a weight in working order of around 131 tonnes, were considered one of the heaviest tank locomotives in Europe at the time. The three-cylinder engines reached a maximum speed of around 100 km/h and had a starting tractive force of almost 110 kN. Visually, class 477.0 was characterised by striking lines with an aerodynamic smoke box, Witte smoke-shield plates and elegant, predominately colourful paintwork with decorative lines. This earned it the nickname ‘Papousek’ (parrot) in everyday operation.

The tender locomotive for passenger trains designated as class 77 by the Austrian Federal Railways was procured from 1913 (SB/kkStB class 629) in several series until 1927. The Pacific type 2'C1' h2t steam locomotive was authorized to run at a maximum speed of 85 km/h. Practically every depot in Austria was at one time or another equipped with class 77 locomotives. The West and Südbahn lines and their branch lines were just a part of the 77's operational area as the Inntal line or the Lindau-Bregenz-St. Margarethen connection. It was not until 1975 that the last locomotives were decommissioned - with the end of steam traction in Austria.
